Online Dating Safety Tips

March 3, 2010 by Ned Yousefzadeh Leave a Comment

There’s thrill, excitement, and nervousness when meeting someone you met over the Net for the first time. But, you must exercise caution when meeting someone you barely know.

Below are some tips to guide you safely when dating.

1. Make arrangements when meeting. Do not let the person pick you up from your house.

2. You should meet in places where there are many people or you can ask for help if your date gives you trouble. Public places such as malls or daytime parks are good places to begin with. If it is possible, you could go double or group date.

3. When you are eating in a restaurant or café, go Dutch. Pay half of the bill. In that way, you won’t feel obliged in returning the favor of treating your date if he or she gets to pay the whole bill.

4. If possible, avoid drinking alcohol while on a date. Alcohol could affect your judgment and lessen inhibitions. If you are drinking, keep the drink in your sight all the time. Do not get too drunk. You might not know what might happen later or remember what you have been doing.

5. If you have a car, use it. Make sure the gas tank is full.

6. Assuming that your date is safe just because he or she claims to be religious is wrong. For all you know, he or she may have a hidden side you still do not know.

7. Do not let any first-time date know where your house is. If you plan in seeing your date the second time, arrange for another date and assess from there if he or she should know where you live.

8. At night, avoid going to secluded, dark areas like parks or dimly lit places.

9. Listen to what your gut says. If there is something that does not feel right, then most likely, it is not. Leave immediately if you feel something isn’t quite right.

10. Tell someone whom you are with and where you will be going. You might also want to arrange a time schedule where someone could call you later and check up on you. You could also plan to meet some friends after the date.

11. Do not give your home contact number. If you really have to give contact information, give your mobile phone number.

12. Stay alert. Having good chemistry and fun the whole time does not mean you should let your guard down. Be sure you have a cell phone with you.

Online dating may be fun, but your safety should be your primary concern.

Why Many Prefer Online Dating Over Traditional One

March 2, 2010 by Ned Yousefzadeh

Gone are the days when dating means courting your future spouse you met at school or in your neighborhood. Romance could blossom now with a click of a mouse.

The Internet has become the ultimate haven for singles – without the drunks, the noise, and the exorbitant cost you pay to be in the bars desperately hoping to be noticed. Thanks to online dating sites, you don’t have to ask your mother or friend to help you hook up with someone they think is perfect for you – which in most cases, isn’t.

Some might still believe in the good ol’ traditional dating. Good luck to them. But not you. You are wise and savvy. You know that online dating is a better and quicker way of connecting with other people and getting to know them. You know you can’t meet all the people in the world that might just be your perfect match. The Internet expands your probabilities, widening your choices to meet a mate.

What are the additional reasons for checking out online sites?

1. The ability to easily access profiles from the easy access to a wide variety of profiles. Online sites make you see hundreds of profiles for a possible match. Clicking on someone that you have an interest on is so easy with just a click of the mouse. Vice-versa, others who would also like to talk to you (and hopefully, just more than that) can also message you.

In traditional dating, you are limited to the social circle that you have. Your choice then becomes limited. Unlike in online dating, where choices can be limitless, and is not limited in your immediate circle of friends and acquaintances.

2. Most reputable dating sites are safe. They are very particular on this area, enforcing among others, a Code of Ethics among members, Certification that a member is single, and background check on criminal record. Check whether the site has safety nets.

Both traditional and online dating have their dangers, although dating traditionally, admittedly, has lesser safety risks. But you can never be too sure.

3. You have the decision to meet or not to meet somebody. If you do not feel meeting somebody up, then it is your decision.

Compared with online dating, you feel a sense of pressure when someone wants you to meet this or that. If your best friend nags you to meet his or her cousin, how can you say no? In online dating, the decision to say yes or no is very easy.

4. The accuracy in finding you a good mate increases since the site has personal profiles for you to look at, personality tests, and image uploads. Some sites can even have audio and video capabilities in their personal ads.

Do not ignore these opportunities in improving your personal ads. Other singles and prospective matches will take a look at your ads longer if you have video or audio clips in your ad Personals ads with images of you have a response of 80 percent, but ads with a video clip or audio clip (or both) have a 97% response.

Unlike in traditional dating, you get to “know” various kinds of people in just a few minutes. You could sense someone’s personality without the hassle of actually meeting that person first.

5. It is relatively affordable and fast. Online dating sites are cheaper and quicker than arranging a date with somebody referred to you by a friend. In just a few minutes, your perfect match could be available.

Of course, internet dating won’t guarantee you an easy head start in dating and romance. After all, like any forms of dating, online dating takes practice and patience. Online dating has its downfalls too. Being online does not mean everyone would be buzzing around you.

That is why when you are using online dating services, you must take responsibility for your actions, and consider safety risks as well. After all you are spending money too – money not just for connecting to the Internet, but also for the minimal fees you pay for being a member in those sites. Internet dating sites cost primarily because of two reasons: First, to discourage fly-by-night creeps who just lurk and are curious in cyberspace. Second, running a good online dating service costs a lot, which also includes ensuring that members are safe.

There are vast differences between traditional and online dating, and it would not hurt you trying dating online.

Writing A Online Dating Profile – Does Your Dating Profile Suck?

March 1, 2010 by Ned Yousefzadeh

“I might not be Fred Flintstone, but I can still make your bed rock!” Come on. You can do better than that. When putting together your dating profile, avoid pick up lines like the above. I have seen dating profiles with these kinds of subject lines. You have to be a lot more romantic than the above line. The above subject line is too raw. You have to bring it down a notch.

Here are some tips to help you when putting together your dating profile.

1.Do not use negativity in your profile. This is a big turn off. “You don’t need to have car keys to drive me crazy.” Or, “I may not look like much, but I am drinking milk.” “If you want me, come and get me.” Ridiculous lines in a dating profile do not work. You have to be positive in your profile because you want to make a great first lasting impression. You do not want to come across as a jerk. If you use the above lines, you will come across as a jerk.

2.Build curiosity in your profile. A terrific subject line could be, “Have you ever been to Fogo De Chao?” This is curiosity. You want that man or women to click on to read more. A dater would be curious to know what is Fogo De Chao? (Between you and I, this is a fabulous Brazilian steak house.) You can go on from there and add more. Here’s another. “Have you ever been to Utopia? Let’s experience our two minds together as one.”

3.People like to hear a short story about you in your profile. Give one just a little taste of who you are. “I am a fire fighter and I am also working on pursuing my passion to open a sports bar while still working as a fire fighter.” Daters want to read details about you. Give it to them. This will let a dater know that you are going places and you have goals.

4.Always be honest in your dating profile and display real photos of you. If you lost some weight or even gained some, have an up to date photo showing how you look today.

5.Never say your name is Wayne. Do not use your real name. Come up with a screen name that stands out and shows a little bit of your character. Also make sure you capitalize each letter in your screen name and never put numbers behind your name.”IAmForReal”,“GorgeousBrownEyes”, etc.You should get the point.

6.People like to be with winners. Bring out the self confidence in you. Walk the walk. If you are self confident in who you are, then you should not have a problem here at all.

7.Make sure you put in your profile what you can offer and the kind of person you are looking for. These tips should help in getting many responses to your dating profile. Get noticed….

Is Online Dating For Me?

February 28, 2010 by Ned Yousefzadeh

Dating online is the latest and easiest way of coming in contact with the new people all around the world. It

currently occupies the largest proportion of paid up advertisement on the web. Why? because they provide

easy access to social interaction with new and interesting people. People you would probably never get a

chance to meet otherwise.

Meeting people in cyberspace is not comfortable for everyone. There are of course safety concerns. A

danger of online dating is the threat of online scams. It is not unknown for unscrupulous con artists to con lonely

people out of large sums of money, but this is very rare. There is also the chance that the person you hook

up with may be dangerous, but that possibility also exists in the bar scene or anywhere else.

The BTK killer was active in his church. John Wayne Gasey was a pillar of the community, being groomed

by influencial friends to run for city councel. I’m not trying to scare anyone away from dating all together. I

just want to stress, with normal precautions, online dating is as safe as meeting people offline.

Online dating is a actually misnomer, people don’t really “date” online, they simply meet there. The idea

of a lonely geek all alone at his computer typing away to his online girlfriend who is actually a 300 pound

transvestite is a common image that makes many people turn their noses up at online dating sites.

This image could not be futher from reality. Almost 31% of Americans know someone who has met a partner online. 15% of Americans, that’s about 30 million people, say they know someone who has been in a long-term relationship with or has married someone they met online.

Dating online, or hooking up online actually, isn’t just for teenagers and young adults. Many seniors have found it a lot less stressfull than diving back into the dating scene after the death of a spouse. Could you imagine trying to hook up with the widow of a deceased friend, or schleping out to a bar or club after years of going home to a pair of loving arms. I can’t. The ability to chat and get to know someone before you actually meet can greatly reduce the anxiety.

Not all online dating sites are the same. Some act as introduction services while others are matchmaking

sevices that focus on long-term relationships and marriage. Dating sites are simply a method of meeting

people. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

We live in a world where everyone is busy. If not on a demanding career path, then simply trying to make ends meet. Most of us don’t have the time or energy left to comb the singles bars every night or attend church socials every weekend. Those options are often fruitless for most of us anyway.

Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your point of view, the days of marrying ones childhood sweetheart are pretty much behind us. Online dating is the new trend in social interaction. You can keep to your busy schedule and still get to know someone great.

Saving Money with Online Dating

February 28, 2010 by Ned Yousefzadeh Leave a Comment

These days, it costs a great deal of money to maintain a presence on the dating scene. Bars and nightclubs routinely charge covers simply for admission, and everything inside will set you back quite a bit. You can find cheaper drinks at certain hours of the day, sure, but the odds of finding a romantic prospect between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 PM are pretty slim, to say the least. More accurately, establishments will actually raise the price of drinks as the crowd grows; after all, what other options do the people have? By the time you factor in the various costs associated with simply going to a bar or club and buying drinks for yourself, let alone buying drinks for other people that pique your interest, it’s not unheard of to spend well over a hundred dollars in a single evening. All of that, and there is still no guarantee that your time, effort, or money will translate into romantic success.

One of the key advantages of online dating versus traditional dating is that you don’t have to spend any money in order to simply participate or to achieve success. Creating an online personal ad or profile requires very little time and effort, and only rarely will a company charge you for the actual hosting of your profile. If there is any fee associated with such a service, it is generally nominal. Simply having a profile available online is the best way to increase your odds of finding a romantic partner; just as you are searching online for potential matches, so too are others looking for somebody just like you. Browsing through available online personal ads is generally free, as well. Occasionally, websites will allow you to browse through the front pages of online personals but will require a paid membership in order to actually contact the person. Often, however, this cost is rolled into the price of personal ad hosting. Regardless of how the fee structure, if any, is structured, it still represents a significantly lower cost than a night on the town with high aspirations and uncertain results.

Not even when you find a romantic prospect and actually connect with them are you required to spend money unnecessarily. A simple exchange of emails and telephone calls costs nothing, and by the time the relationship progresses to the point where the two of you go out, it is generally assumed that there is sufficient mutual interest to warrant such a decision. Because of this, a night out will not be a matter of throwing money around in hopes of finding romantic success; as there is already interest, any money spent will go towards fostering the development of a relationship. Furthermore, getting to know somebody online and by telephone before actually going out with them gives you the opportunity to explore interests and discover what the two of you have in common. Because of this, there is no “testing the waters” to see what the two of you can enjoy doing together. In all aspects, online dating is a more economically feasible option than traditional settings.

Online Dating – My First Time

February 27, 2010 by Ned Yousefzadeh

Okay. I’ll take a look, but I’m not saying that I’m going to participate in online dating just yet. I’ve heard the success stories and the horror stories about online dating, but I do not have any first hand experience to share with you on the topic.

What I plan to do in this article is take you with me while I explore the different online dating services available on the web. Brace yourself and buckle your seatbelt, I’m going to try something I saw in a cartoon.

Just kidding. That’s something I like to say to the passengers in my car just before I start to drive. Maybe that’s part of the reason I’m having dating problems in the first place.

Okay, the first website I discovered says it’s a “free” online dating service. Online, red flags always go up for me when someone says that magic word, “free”. But, let’s take a closer look.

Well, it sounds good. It says it is, “an internet dating service that provides a comfortable and intimate environment where you can safely and conveniently search and find your perfect soul mate, while having lots of fun. Thousands of dating ads of singles that are looking for dating romance, intimacy and friendship is available for you to browse through. Your ideal companion might be among them. (site name deleted) brings dating to new frontiers, making impossible, possible!”

I’m having a little trouble with the comfortable and intimate environment thing. They haven’t seen the room my computer sits in. Safe and convenient sounds nice though. But if the website is just a lot of personal ads, can’t I just get something like that at my local news stand or in my local newspaper?

I think I’ll move on and take a look to see if there are online dating services that provide more than dating advice and personal ads.

Hmm, now I find myself on an online dating website that claims to be the biggest online dating service on the web. It has a big picture of Dr. Phil on the front. Almost scared me away, but I’ll tough it out and stay to see what they offer.

Here is what they say, “Looking for more in a relationship and a dating site? With over 10 years of experience in online dating and relationships, (site name deleted) is the worldwide leader in online dating and relationships. Where else can you find millions of singles looking for love, just like you? We don’t offer just online personals, we are personal in our offerings – to help you find a date, a relationship, a marriage.

Whoa! Marriage? I said I might try online dating. I never said anything about marriage! And now I have the mental image of “millions of singles looking for love”. Wow! Millions. Okay, so they sound big, but what do they actually offer?

Well, first off, they don’t really tell you much about the services they provide. Just a lot of information about the millions who have gotten married through their online dating service. So I bit the bullet and went to the sign up form to learn more.

Now comes the money question. $29.95 for a month or I can get discounts for longer memberships. Then there is the Dr. Phil MindFindBind program that costs more. Now I’m laughing because since I am checking the online dating service out while typing this article, I evidently have waited too long to make my decision because a popup just came up to offer me assistance with making up my mind.

They do have some free services, but those are basically, create a profile, look at profiles, etc. That’s just like the free services on the first online dating website. You have to pay for the ability to actually respond to any emails sent to you by other members or block members or to see which members have taken a peek at your profile. That all sounds okay, but if you go for the whole Dr. Phil package you get an online dating tutorial, a video about online dating, online dating workshops, and online dating advice. Wow!

Well, as I said, I haven’t decided just yet, so we are going to check out one more online dating website together. Okay, this one is free. They have a patent pending on their matchmaking idea. They calculate your matchability in percentages.

The online dating method they use goes like this, “When you answer a question in our improve matches area we learn: (1) your answer, (2) how you’d like someone else to answer, and (3) how important the question is to you. We collect these three values for all users.

Your match percentage with a given person on (site name deleted), let’s call him b, is based on the values of (1), (2),and (3) for questions you’ve both answered. We’ll call that set S later in this explanation:” Wow! I thought that just regular dating was complicated.

I think I’m going to keep checking out more online dating websites until I find the one that is right for me. So far, the ones we just toured have been too much like personal ads, too expensive, too Dr. Phillish for my tastes, or too complicated. I’m sure though, just like finding the right date, there is an online dating website out there for me and one for you too!

I encourage you to at least try online dating. But don’t stop at the first online dating service you find, just like hopefully you wouldn’t stop at the first singles bar you saw. Check out as many as you need to in order to find the online dating service that is right for you.
